As my studio practice has deepened in 2026, I find myself in an exciting and somewhat uncertain place creatively.  I continue to bring everything I learned from my 25 years of teaching art into my own art practice and at the same time, forget everything that I learned.  This kind of freedom is both exciting and intimidating.

My current visual work is rooted in experimentation with color, shape, form and space.  I work with acrylic paint, gel printing and collage, often layering processes and images and allowing one thing to lead to another. Recently, I have been practicing photo transfer with mixed results. I like beginning without knowing where a piece will end.  There is always a temptation to find the image, metaphor or meaning too quickly.  I am trying to resist that-to listen to the work and allow meaning to emerge through the process.

My creative life is also expanding beyond visual art. Writing has become increasingly important to me through the writing groups I have led over the past several years and, more recently through publishing a Substack.  I have also returned to acting and recently performed in a full theatrical production.  I don’t yet know how painting, writing and performance will intersect in my work.  I like that I don’t know.
